Inventory number ST2240AB. Date: 1900-1910. Organza fabric of the object. Ensemble, for a girl aged twelve to thirteen, part of a masquerade (Empire style) made of white taffeta with small green squares. A. Bodice (Caraco): Made of green checked taffeta. Features a folded collar with lapels in ecru organza and tulle. Short, straight, attached sleeves are finished with an edge of open embroidery and trimmed with a tulle strip. The front panels are pleated flat, crossing over the chest to the back, where the long ends are tied. The left front panel and back panel are gathered at the waist. Two small metal snap fasteners on the inner shoulders are used to attach the bodice to the skirt. B. Long Skirt: Made of green checked taffeta with an underbodice of white cotton lawn. The underbodice has a V-neck at the front, trimmed with a strip of machine lace, and short, straight sleeves. The underbodice transitions into a petticoat made of white silk pongee, which is trimmed at the bottom with a wide strip of machine lace. The taffeta skirt features a highly gathered waistband. At the hem, it is adorned with two gathered strips of the same taffeta, with a gathered strip of lawn decorated with machine embroidery (broderie anglaise) in between. The back of the underbodice has a round neckline edged with machine lace. Two snap fasteners on the lower part of the shoulders attach the underbodice to the bodice. The skirt has a slit at the back right. The underbodice and petticoat close at the center back with five glass buttons. The skirt is secured to the underbodice at the back with two metal snap fasteners and closes at the back right with two metal snap fasteners at the slit and a metal hook and eye at the waist.
